To be honest Skeuomorphism is just a bad attempt to recapture the feeling of hardware. It's like it'll never be the same, just embrace it.

I buy hardware if I want that kind of interface and even then I really like minimal designs like Elektron. For a screen nothing beats a clearly readable layout based entirely in function. Screens are inherently uninspiring for many people and I feel that I want to get in and get out as quick as possible in the sense that I want to do everything fast and clearly. Well it does have the easy panel with basic controls, but I quite like having a lot of parameters to deal with, it gives you more control, which is quite needed in kick drums. In my mind simplicity always meant having to sacrifice control. Obviously having a lot of parameters means you won't get the hang of it the first couple of tries, but I feel once you do get the hang of it, you should get very good results. Also what I found with Kick is that it seems if you want the more commercial Progressive/Electro house kick almost anything you try with it will do, but not so much with Deep/Tech house, at least in my experience.
I like Skeuomorphism. To each his own. I feel like this type of design really helps me grasp new programs so much faster.
You just have to think a bit and follow the UI it helps you figure it out. With the minimalist stuff I just have no idea at first and I honestly dont like any 'minimalist' vst out there.except for zebra2 if you could call it that. The UI helps me out.I know your point, you are good enough that it doesnt, that you know what everything in the program those so all youo need is the text and the value and youll program anything.but thats just rosey thinking. If it didnt help they wouldnt do it. Even if the UI doesnt have anything precise on it, can be good.
Makes you use your ears instead of your eyes which is what you should always do.I personally am surprised to hear anybody would even use Kick. When I read about it, it seemed too basic, for people who dont know much about synthesis, because theres honestly nothing about it that the majority of synths out there cant do.
But that was a while back, dont know when the vst got popular. Punch is actually a novel product, with a ton of feature and I dont know how you can compare the two.
It really makes me wonder if you even watched the video, there is just so much it can do, and I would honestly use it for more than just kicks more often than not. As far as what a 'minimal' VST constitutes, compare to. I'll admit the Arturia example is a rather extreme example of skeuomorphism (perhaps would be a better comparison to Mini-V since they're both Minimoog emulations, though Monark's UI is a lot more tasteful.)As far as Kick goes, tbh its a poor comparison against Punch, and I'm only really bringing it up since OP made the comparison. A better comparison would be Kick vs Bazzism, and to be honest Kick is pretty much Bazzism with a better UI and a layering feature (and the graph points snap to the notes.). I don't think it's about the end result but rather the efficiency in making the sound. When you're making music, it's best for the interfaces and plugins to be easy to use.The best kind of interfaces are the ones that 'get out of your way' and allow you to focus on the actual composition or sound design. If the interface is clunky, then it'll be harder to focus on the actual music since you're too busy fumbling about with the plugin.Whether or not a skeuomorphic interface can be intuitive is a whole other topic.
I suppose it has to do with personal preference and taste at that point.
